I've added some more pictures to the Strathewen post-fires album on Le Book Du Face... Damn, that must have been a scary place to be!
Facebook, one year on
Nov. 22nd, 2008 01:10 amIt occurs to me that August, so a few months back now, was the first anniversary of me joining Facebook. I quickly ended up with about 15 friends. Now I have... 382! Jeepers. Although admittedly a lot of the more recent additions, roughly thirty of them, have been people I follow on Twitter.
Although lots of them have been genuine, such as Eleanor from high school. And, weirdly, coming across my dad by accident! And Koos, the retiree I know from Toastmasters who works as a Santa this time of year. And what an excellent looking Santa he makes!
I haven't really touched any of the applications I've got on facebook in more than six months, let alone added any. I haven't superpoked anyone or bitten anyone's zombie. The novelty well and truly wore off quite some time ago. So really I've been using the site almost exclusively for... social networking! Who would have thought!
It's also interesting the number of people I have connected with on my three "core" sites - Livejournal here, Facebook and Twitter. Although I think there is only about three people I know on all three...
Anyway, probably time I went sleepy bye-byes.

May. 29th, 2008 10:43 pmHey all.
As of about two days ago, I have 300 "friends" on facebook. Well, actually, now I have 307. They have a thingy now which suggests people you might know, so amongst other things I clicked "add as friend" on all of them, to see who would accept. Well, all of them except for my ex-girlfriends it also suggested. And, mysteriously, Deb's ex as well!
Tomorrow I'm going to ride to work. That'll be novel. And, I suspect, cold. I've been on the new bike every day bar one since I got it. And on that day, I rode my spin bike. I've got more exercise this week than I've ever got! Now if I could just stop eating like a pig, I might lose some weight like my doctor told me to.
Last night I was riding to Deb's along the bike track on park street (if you know where that is, I can't really explain). Down near Rushal station there where three teenage girls wandering all over the track, chatting and goofing off, as they do - right where I needed to ride. I was going slow, so I rang my bell, once, politely, like the sign says you should on the bike path. They all screamed and leapt out of the way, it was hilarious! One of them said "don't scare us like that!". I just laughed as I rode past 'em.
Also managed to briefly fall off Ninja Bike... in my driveway. Said driveway is very steep. I buzzed the gates open, and attempted to start up it. But I was in entirely the wrong gear, and couldn't build up speed. Then I hit the lump in the middle that the gates lock into, bounced off it and started rolling backwards, at which point I went over sideways and end up jammed against the letterboxes at about a 45 degree angle. How is that for stupid?
OK, what else. Ah, that's about all I can be bothered blogging about for the mo. Catch ya all.

At this very moment, I'm peroxiding my hair an insane shade of blonde (again.) I had to take off my specs, so now I have to lean really close to the screen to see what I'm typing :-)
Spent the day today in a stuffy, too hot church hall in Cheltenham, at a toastmasters contest. Gah. I saw seventeen speeches. Strewth. I think I'm getting a bit over the toasties thing - I was bored to tears in the end, ended up checking facebook on my phone. I definitely want to go back to being a "normal" toastmater, rather than an area governor. Spare time? What's that?

Hmmm.... Is This A Faux Pas?
Jan. 21st, 2008 08:36 pmIt that how you spell Faux Pas???
Who recons the following was... One of them things...
One of the delights of f*c*b**k is finding old friends. I came across a couple (literally, a couple) of people I hadn't seen in about three years (they were friends of the Ex.)
So I thought I'd ask them out for a coffee, let bygones be bygones. So I asked 'em out for a coffee. There was a bit of an exchange of messages on the aforementioned social networking site - which hence was doing its job. And one of them mentioned they were at two addresses...
Wait, I thought, when I knew them they lived together in a flat in St. Kilda... So I asked... Seems they're not together and haven't been for ages!
*slaps head*
In my defence, neither of them display their relationship status, and there was a series of happy pictures of them recently from Midsumma... With, I now realise, at least one other chick in the shot... (er, important detail which may be lacking, partly because I don't want to use their names: we're talking a lesbian couple here...)
They were practically married! In fact they did some kind of "commitment ceremony" on a beach as a protest about rights for same sex couples.
Ah well, will try and meet at least one of them for a drink!!??!?

He he... Guess who is procrastinating about reading his email? :-)
Haven't mentioned Facebook much of late have I?
I now have the grand total of 124 "friends." It could be argued that going out and friending other people with the same name as me is getting a bit stupid. Which would be true :-)
Have I mentioned that it's really boring being sick?

Facebook Cats Etc.
Oct. 3rd, 2007 09:25 pmHad at least another two conversations about Facebook today.
One of my cow-orkers was worried about my cats. He wanted to know why I'd been posting to Schnitzel and Milkshake's Catbooks saying "I miss you" etc. I had to explain that the cats were fine, but they were living with their mommy at the moment. And that their mommy and daddy didn't live together any more...
I suppose it's kind of endearing that someone is paying that close attention to my cats!!!!
In other facebook news, I now have 113 friends. Just found an old mate from the Jammers. Cool.

Scrabble, Exploitation, Facebook
Aug. 21st, 2007 02:29 pmFound a couple of my cousins on Facebook (now have 69 friends).
Made the word "UTOPIAS" in scrabble on said Facebook, in a game with
evildoom_bunny, thus using up all my letters and scoring 84 points. Sorry Lifty.
And my copy of If Footmen Tire You, What Will Horses Do? just turned up in the mail. Anyone want a copy?

Facebook, Again
Jul. 31st, 2007 09:50 pmSo, almost three weeks into being on Facebook and I've found thirty eight people who know (or they've found me.)
Still lacks lots of people I've lost touch with, but who wouldn't be the kinds of people to join a social networking site...

Facebook: Week one
Jul. 20th, 2007 05:48 pmEight days on Facebook.
Total friends: twenty seven.
Number of cats who are friends with
schnitzelrug: three.
Number of weird "I didn't know you knew so-and-so!" events: three.
Number involving Jess Latimer: Three!
Number of cities in my "places I've been" map: about eight cities.
Total countries: One.
Same stats for my friend Laura: sixty six cities in eighteen countries.
I gotta get out more...
Yep, it's definitely out of hand. According to Time magazine, they're getting 150,000 new people a day.

Facebook Explosion
Jul. 15th, 2007 08:44 pmGadzooks. Against my better judgment, I was talked into joining yet another social networking site.
evildoom_bunny, I'm looking at you...
This is despite the fact that I'm on every social networking site under the sun - Myspace (scary, typed that entire URL and href from memory), Orkut, Hi5 (why that one? Ewgh) and probably several more that I've forgotten about. Does Friends Reunited count? Ewgh again.
Anyway, every now and then someone invites me to join one o' these kinds of sites. And frighteningly, I often find that I'm already on them, having forgotten about all the damn accounts I have around the place. Blogspot? Yep, there already. Not to mention owning four domain names and paying for hosting on two different ISPs.
So, to make a long story short, last Thursday I was finally persuaded to join Facebook by the aforementioned Evil Doom. So I did, and using the "find friends" thingy, discovered a surprising number of my friends on there already. Thursday I had three friends. Friday I had six, more people found me somehow. Had lunch with a friend, she told me she was on there as well. Added her, found a couple of other people via her profile. Discovered she knows a guy called Damon, who I also know. So Saturday I had twelve friends. And today (Sunday) I have eighteen!
But the really daft thing is, they're all people I know already, and indeed some people who I'm connected to on here.
And, scarier still,
schnitzelrug is on there! And she has cat friends!!! Eeep.
So, for some reason, this week, every man and his dog has been on facebook. As things wax, others wain. I got back onto Orkut after a long while. Most of the people I knew on there have let their accounts expire... And some of them are on facebook... Egad.
Ok, time to make some random friends on this internet thingy....
