Thanks to the new netbook and the el-cheapo wireless router, you now all have the pleasure of hearing from me from my bed. Wireless is rather cool I've decided - it's still kind of freaky seeing the internets come up on the screen when there's no cables coming out the back o' the thing.

(Also just realised I haven't added an english dictionary to this install of firefox, so this post will have more than average number of spelling mistakes. And now Marvin is trying to climb onto the keyboard. Shoo kitty!)

It's been a really long week. Partly from having just got back from holidays, partly from having too much work to do when I did get back to my desk. The damn project I've been working on for more than six months still refuses to come to a working conclusion. Stupid thing is getting me down. I've also made the interesting discovery that my project manager is not very good... She panics very easily, and often sits next to me waiting for me to solve things I don't know how to fix... Ah well, hopefully it'll all be done next week and I can move on to something else.

Anyway, had an interesting evening. I caught up with a woman called Jane, who could be regarded as a new friend. That was kind of cool. I'm thinking of upgrading her to best friend, maybe, since that position is still vacant. There are other people I should also become better friends with... Jane is a piece of work, she edits MX, and is into all sorts of incongruous music like Ice Cube and other rappers... She's an angry suburban white boy like me!

Deb popped in, in her usual extremely bright outfit. Makes her easy to spot in a crowded lounge. She'd bumped into some other folks we know, Simon and Louise, downstairs. So we all got together, and Jane made her way out to... go have a fight with her boyfriend over facebook, and she put it! Go figure.

We had dinner and went way over to North Melbourne to a place called the Monkey Bar, which makes my favourite chai, I discovered. But it was rather a long way from the cinema we were supposed to be in! I ended up in a taxi trundling down Elizabeth street - my bike it getting serviced today, which is a pity because it would have been real handy.

Watched some bike related films at the 2008 bicycle film festival, which was cool. Now I want one of those little BMX-like bikes which people do ticks on! Although something tells me my 37 year old 100 kilo body would not stand up well to that kind of thing :-)

Hey all, I've not been the best LJ this week (or this month for that matter).

In order to remedy the situation, here is some Stuff from my week. In reverse order.

Friday (today) was FUCKED. I had an appointment at the Alfred Hospital this morning, as an outpatient for a follow up from the surgery I had on my deviated septum (that's in yer nose) last year. The appoint was for 10.40AM, although I was about five minutes late. Because I had to iron a shirt and there was some kind of Grande Finale Parade on. Anyway, the finally saw me two hours later. Fuck I was annoyed. Still, they did give me a medical certificate.

Then I had to head into work for a Demo for some South Koreans of the shit I work on at, er, work. A demo for which I'd been preparing for three days. Turns out these guys weren't really interested in our stuff. They didn't want to become customers, didn't want to buy anything from us, weren't interested in presentations. They seemed to most be here because one of our suppliers had lied to them about what our hardware could do. It wasn't even close to what they wanted. They didn't want to see any of the stuff I'd spent three days setting up, they mainly seemed to be here to steal our ideas. Great. I managed to get really PISSED OFF about that as well. What a waste of my life. I mean, I ironed a shirt for this...

Then my day improved a little. I went and had a post work drink with Jessica Latimer (hello, Jess, next time you're Vanity Googling yourself :-) and we both bitched about our weeks. We'd both had shit ones. Although despite my week (more to follow), the fact that someone had attempted to burn down the house they'd bought three weeks ago seemed to top the misery stakes!!!!

My brother had been trying to call me all evening, so I gave him a bell when I got home. Turns out he also hadn't had dinner, had a box of CAE bookgroup books there in Brunswick, and needed a hand installing his new huge hard-drive. So I suggested coming over with some curry. He suggested that was a mighty fine idea. Man, I ordered too much, though, on the theory that I should at least pretend to eat vegetables. Still digesting it *burp* Installed his drive in about five minutes, and did various other computer related shit for them. Man, people get paid good money for this kind of thing :-)

And... Maybe the rest of the week deserves its own entry.

Friday morning, I made a two and half hour telephone call to the UK. It was after midnight over there, the crazy bugger I was talking to doesn't seem to sleep! And I'm glad I'm not paying that phone bill!

Finally saw the Simpson's movie. I dragged along a group o' six people in the end. And... I'm not sure it really did that much for me... It kinda had a conventional Hollywood plot, in some senses. Family faces hardship. Family redeems itself. Whatever. The Simpsons aren't that conventional, or at least they didn't used to be. Twenty years later, I guess I can be forgiven for being nostalgic. Heck, I started watching it in 1989. Anyway, it had some redeeming sequences. The "Nude Skateboarding" section for example. Otherwise, it was just a longer version of the current Simpsons episodes... Which is not a good thing...

Anyway, I'd better skedaddle off to the market for Food.
