Rock 'n' Roll!!!!!!

Saturday night,
goth_prostitute turned 24, or at least celebrated it, with an 80's dress up party. What is it with you kids and the 80's??? I was there at the time, and they were crap!
All the same, it gave me the excuse to put together a bad 80's Big Hair Band rocker outfit. Converse shoes, ripped blue jeans, Def Leopard t-shirt, wrist sweat bands, shitty leather jacket, and of course long long brown hair. Also took along my bass, like I was off to Rock somewhere.
Why is it that when I get dressed up lately I invariable wear a wig??? What does this say about my relationship with my hair?
The best thing about dressing up is it's an excuse to go to Savers (or something like it). Sara and I went to the Uber-Savers on Sydney Road. Picked up, in order of most to least useful, some really good mid-sized plates from some defunct hotel - not quite saucers, not quite plates, just the right size for two pieces of toast. And some blue jeans, a couple of shitty vinyl leather-look jackets - very eighties. And an old retro telephone, the same shape as the old dial ones but with push buttons. With the great old handset. We drove around pretending to talk on it. I'm going to plug it in and use it!
The party was interesting, I finally met
cherry_legend and also got to try on some of
goth_prostitute's clothes. It's about time I had a party at my place.
Sunday morning I visited Hazel in Box Hill. I popped the wig on just to see her reaction. She got the fright of her life when she saw this strange man coming up her driveway!

Date: 2006-08-29 07:55 am (UTC)It was in 1990, and it felt as strange as fuck!
I personally was at a loss to describe what 80s was (not enough distance to look back on it) so the organisers started us off with "yuppies, sushi, knickerbockers, bubble skirts, etc." Went quite well. And the insult "that's so eighties" was born out of the cynical mouth of the Sharkey ;-)
Wow.
Date: 2006-08-30 01:01 am (UTC)Did we really take Boy George seriously???
You and I both lived through the decade - I can describe it - it was crap. And I don't know why anyone would bother remembering it!
Still waiting for the grunge revival :-)
