Bizarro. This is from a press release from the Greens today (which, as I mentioned, is 6/6/06!):

Greens meet sect

Australian Greens Leader Bob Brown had a one and a half hour meeting with three representatives of the Exclusive Brethren sect at Parliament House in Canberra.

The Melbourne men argued against Senator Brown's proposal for a Senate inquiry into the Exclusive Brethren's social and political activities. The motion will be debated on 14 June.

Exclusive Brethren have funded campaigns for conservatives, especially Prime Minister Howard, and against progressive parties including Labor, but especially the Greens, in Australia and overseas. Sect members ran a major anti-Greens campaign in this year's Tasmanian election.

Senator Brown cited distressing family break-ups by the sect with members excommunicated from spouses and children.

The elders warned Senator Brown of eternal damnation.

They refused to say if the Exclusive Brethren's leader, Elect Vessel Bruce Hales of Sydney, had authorised their visit.

I'm probably going straight to hell for this. Oh, for those who don't know, the Exclusive or Plymouth Brethern are a secretive Christian sect. One of their edicts forbids its members from even voting!
