The amusingly titled New Horizons In Violence have a new EP coming out sometime soon. Being the compulsive online shopper that I am, I ordered one on line.

This was my reply to their email about it - in the special instructions sections I wrote "You Smell" :-)

G'day New Horizons,

Hmmm... That should increase my chances of getting a date...

Aaaah... I thought that might be the case. Not to worry, I'm happy to wait so long as it's SIGNED AND KISSED BY ALL OF YOU! :-P

Actually, I think the problem here is my reflexive response to the "Buy It Now" button. When I see one online, I just HAVE to click on it. Which could explain the five Sun Ra CDs that turned up *slaps head*

You're both right, I don't update this blog enough.

Too much else going on in my life - as I often say, I sometimes feel like blogging my life properly would take more time than just living it.

I will endeavor to remedy this over the next few days, in another intesive burst o' bloggin' :-)

I'm a prodigious consumer of music, which could explain the 420+ CD collection. I need new music, well, all the time. Note to self: probably time to start listening to the radio again. But then, JJJ sucks like a 1000 watt vacuum cleaner.

Anyway, my ability to acquire new music is somewhat hampered by a) lack of money and b) moral qualms about downloading people's music. Especially the little bands I'm into being so broke to begin with. Even some big bands need supporters. Plus the fact that the stuff I'm into is usually so obscure I can't find it online. Plus actually knowing a number of muso's well enough to say hello to - Justin Haezlwood and David Thrussell spring to mind - it'd be like stealing from my friends.

Anyway, all the same, I decided to beat problem a) by overcoming moral dilemma b) with the following rationalization:

If I only download music by obscenely successful artists, I won't feel so bad.

On this basis, I've acquired Led Zeppelin's entire recorded output via a bit torrent. Hey, they've sold 600 Million albums, I think they'll cope. I'm also downloading most of Zappa's material as well... Although... Zappa is a bit hard, being still a bit alternative and underground... But... But... I have bought at least five of his albums over the years. And he's not starving to death (Nor are Dweezil, Moon Unit, Amet Rodan or Diva Muffin)... Well, he can't starve to death, he died in the early nineties... Argh! Brain hurty!

(BTW, I've listened to quite a deal of Led Zep over the years, and I'm still trying to work out what all the fuss is about. Will work my way through their albums and see if I "Get It".)

At the same time, I've just ripped about ten of [livejournal.com profile] evildoom_bunny's classical music collection. Not to mention the device I've acquired which should allow me to convert my records to MP3, thus making them more accessible. Hmmmm... Five hours of Laurie Anderson's "United States Live"...

So soon I will be rolling in new music, which will hopefully take me several months to process.

Hey all, a friend of mine has a collection of ancient stickers. One of which caused me such a burst of painful nostalgia that I had to share it.

Click here for painful nostalgia! )

Ok, so, perhaps you have to be of a certain vintage to get that one :-)

x-posted.

Made another of our now regular trips to Preston Market.

Amusing things which happened today:

Walking into the Organic food store, wearing jeans, my "I'm Blogging This" T-Shirt, and my rather nice long black jacket (come back, heat wave!). The guy behind the counter said "What are you doing here, you're far to well dressed!" I told him I was from Northcote - not sure if that was an explanation.

Spotted Martin Ferguson, the federal member for the seat of Batman, which covers Northcote and indeed Preston. He was wearing the daggiest pair of shorts and a stripy rugby top - so he fitted right in. I almost said hello, but he had that look of "someone's just recognizing me because I'm slightly famous" and so I left him alone :-)

[livejournal.com profile] evildoom_bunny and I had bubble tea, which is so not on my diet. In fact, I'm pretty sure it's not on anyone's diet.

Picked up a stack of tiger prawns. Hmmmm... Seafood.

Must go, off to a Gig.
