I'm an
ebay addict, but I've never had an experience quite like this one.
I picked up a couple of new headphones (to go with my recently acquired MP3 player) from some chap in Perth. Band & Olfsen A8's, no less. Or at least, so the auction had me believe. They turned up on Tuesday, and while I was unwrapping them, one of the speaker parts snapped off its little arm. Hmmmm...
So I went for a wander to the B & O store up on Collins street, and checked their headphones out. They looked subtly different, so I showed the guy the ones I'd received. He took about two seconds to dismiss them as dodgy knock-offs. The logo was different, the box was different, they had plastic where the real thing had aluminium, the nut on the hinge was different. I'd been sold shit, basically. He was very interested to see them, especially since they'd even gone to the trouble of faking the little leather storage pouch, and he went off to tell his superiors.
Waiting for the ebay guy to give me a refund. I noticed he was auctioning at least eight more of them on ebay, so I'm seriously considering tell ebay about him.
I've bought nearly 130 things off ebay, and this is the first time something like this has happened. Although... There was that guy who sold me a DVD of a Bill Hicks documentary which had been taped off the television. You could see where the ad's had been edited out. I actually still appreciated it having it, but...
