We're All Old I Suppose
Spent the weekend at two 60th birthday parties. My Dad's long-delayed do (his birthday is in September!) and
evildoom_bunny's Mom's party. How bizarre they should both be on the same day.
My Dad basically invited everyone he knows. Including a lot of his old colleagues from RMIT. I hadn't seen a lot of these people in years. And they've all got... Old. I suppose ten years will do that to you. And I guess the same goes for me! I'm not the fresh-faced young twenty something I was... Now I just date one :-)
Man, my old geography teacher was even there - my Dad knows her through... Ah, too hard to explain.
Good deed number one: Months ago I picked up some boxes of old toys from
ok_i_give_in whose daughter seemed to have a huge number of toys and has now outgrown most of them. On Saturday I gave 'em to my cousin who has two kids, age three and six. They were an immediate hit.
Then we toddled over to
evildoom_bunny's Mother's house. My main contribution: Starting a roaring fire in the brazier thing. We weren't sure how to light it, so we erred on the side of caution - a whole lot of newspaper, about twelve fire lighters, and most of the small to middle sized branches we could find in the garden... Needless to day, the flames were about four feet high before too long, and it quickly consumed every piece of wood in the place! The sides of the thing were glowing red...
Good deed number two:
evildoom_bunny and I, and her brother and his wife, put together a pile of money to give to
evildoom_bunny's mom so she can get a new pair of glasses. She's been complaining about the current pair since I've known her. The gift was my suggestion, and I made a mock eye-chart as a card :-) Damn I'm saintly!
