Interface by Neal Stephenson and Fredrick George (originally published under the pseudonym Stephen Bury).

And now I have to go off to my book group!

Will do. Trying to chew through some of the others on the list first. Given up on Stupid White Men - I've read it before, and it was for my bookgroup. Which was on Monday... Oops...
